SQL & Enterprise Databases

Installation & Setup (MS SQL Server & SSMS / MySQL / PostgreSQL)

Installation & Setup (MS SQL Server & SSMS / MySQL / PostgreSQL): Install and configure Microsoft SQL Server Developer Edition, SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), MySQL, or PostgreSQL.

Legacy / Unoptimized Pattern

Unindexed full table scans, non-SARGable wrappers, cursors, missing transaction boundaries, and unhandled deadlocks.

Enterprise Relational Standard

Covering B-Tree index seeks, 3NF schema integrity, deterministic ACID transactions, and sub-millisecond execution plans.

Core Architectural Foundation & Operational Principles

Database setup involves installing the core relational database engine service along with graphical client management tools like SSMS or DBeaver.

Critical Pitfalls & What to Avoid

Common developer mistake: Forgetting to enable TCP/IP protocol in SQL Server Configuration Manager when connecting from external tools or Docker containers.

Pitfall

Forgetting to enable TCP/IP protocol in SQL Server Configuration Manager when connecting from external tools or Docker containers.

Enterprise Standard

Cap max server memory to prevent the database engine from starving the host operating system of RAM.
