01Human Eyes vs Robot Selectors
When a human looks at a computer screen, they use their eyes to find a blue button that has the word 'Submit' written on it.
A software robot does not look at colors or visual shapes. Instead, it reads the technical properties stored in the background of that element: • Every button, text field, and window has an internal tag, such as an ID number, a name attribute, or an application title. • In UiPath, this set of background identifiers is called a Selector. • Because the robot looks for these background properties rather than screen pixels, it can still click the correct button even if the font, color, or monitor resolution changes.
Attribute Matching
Finds elements using stable attributes like id, aaname, and automationid.
Resolution Independence
Operates correctly across laptop displays, external monitors, and headless VMs.
Selector Tuning
Developers use wildcards (* and ?) to handle elements with dynamic session IDs.
