Handle dynamic attributes: Asterisk (*), Question mark (?), and RegEx pattern selectors.
Traditional / Ad-Hoc Approach
Manual human clicks, brittle unmanaged scripts, zero centralized control, and missing fault tolerance.
Enterprise UiPath Standard
Production-grade execution, dynamic Unified Target selectors, automated retry recovery, and centralized governance.
Wildcards (* and ?) replace dynamic or changing portions of selector attribute values, allowing a selector to match elements whose titles or IDs change on every run. Key Sub-topics Breakdown: • Subtopic 1: Dynamic Attribute Challenges: Handling changing dates, session tokens, and dynamic document titles • Subtopic 2: Wildcard Characters: Asterisk (*) matching zero or more characters; Question mark (?) matching exactly one • Subtopic 3: Regex Selectors: Using matching:aaname='regex' for complex pattern matching in attributes In enterprise automation environments, Selectors with Wildcards guarantees reliable execution within the UiPath ecosystem. Key Sub-topics Breakdown: 1. Dynamic Attribute Challenges: Handling changing dates, session tokens, and dynamic document titles 2. Wildcard Characters: Asterisk (*) matching zero or more characters; Question mark (?) matching exactly one 3. Regex Selectors: Using matching:aaname='regex' for complex pattern matching in attributes
Web applications frequently append session IDs, timestamps, or username prefixes to window titles. Without wildcards, automations fail on the second run.
`*` matches any sequence of characters of any length. `?` matches exactly one character. Studio also supports `matching:attribute='regex'` for regular expressions.
Zero unmanaged credentials, explicit timeout ceilings, and structured audit logging.

└────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘At a global enterprise handling over 75,000 monthly transactions, operational teams implemented Selectors with Wildcards to resolve critical production bottlenecks:
Manual intervention caused processing delays and human error in mission-critical transactions.
Deployed Selectors with Wildcards with automated retry rules, dynamic error recovery, and end-to-end audit logging.
Eliminated 98% of manual touchpoints, achieved sub-second execution latency, and maintained 99.9% uptime.
